This page sets out how Water Upkeep decides what to publish, where our information comes from, and what we will not do. It is the standard we hold ourselves to and the standard you should hold us to.
1. Purpose
Water Upkeep exists to help homeowners in the United States make correct decisions about home water treatment equipment: what their water problem is, what equipment addresses it, what size they need, what it costs, and how to keep it working.
2. Independence
No manufacturer, dealer, installer or retailer pays for coverage on this site, for placement in any list, for a ranking position, or for a favourable conclusion. We do not publish sponsored posts. We do not accept paid guest posts. We do not sell links. Any commercial relationship that exists in future will be disclosed on the relevant page and on our Affiliate Disclosure.
3. Sourcing standard
Every factual claim on this site should be traceable to one of the following, in order of preference:
- Published standards, such as NSF/ANSI 42, 44, 53, 58 and 401, and Water Quality Association certification listings.
- Government and university-extension sources, including the US Environmental Protection Agency, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the United States Geological Survey, state health departments and land-grant university extension services.
- Manufacturer documentation: manuals, specification sheets and installation instructions. These are labelled as manufacturer claims and are not independently verified by us.
- Clearly labelled aggregation of owner-reported experience from public forums and retailer reviews, used only for failure patterns and never as a technical specification.
4. How our content is produced
Water Upkeep uses AI-assisted research and drafting, followed by human review, fact-checking and editing before anything is published. A named human editor is responsible for every page on this site and for every error on it. We disclose this because you are entitled to know how what you are reading was made.
5. Health boundary
Water Upkeep publishes regulatory limits, certification facts and equipment information. We do not provide medical advice, we do not diagnose conditions, and we do not claim health outcomes from any product. Where a contaminant has a regulatory limit we will cite the limit and the source. If you have a health concern about your water, speak to your physician and to your state or local health department.
6. Safety boundary
Where a task involves the incoming water main, gas appliances, electrical supply, confined spaces, or work that requires a permit in your jurisdiction, we say so and we refer you to a licensed professional. We do not publish step-by-step instructions for that work.
7. Corrections
If you find an error, tell us through the contact page and select Correction. We prioritise corrections over everything else. Substantive corrections are fixed and noted with a dated correction line at the foot of the article. Minor typographical fixes are made without a note.
8. Updating
Cost and product content is reviewed at least every twelve months. The Last reviewed date on a page changes only when the page has actually been reviewed or amended. We do not refresh dates to appear current.
9. What we will not publish
- Claims for alkaline, structured, hexagonal or magnetised water, or any similar unsupported technology.
- Contaminant fear-marketing, including implied health outcomes used to sell equipment.
- Any claim that we have tested a product when we have not. See our Research and Review Methodology.
- Any statement we cannot source.
